WHO WE ARE
We are an island-wide community organization established to provide a single clear voice on behalf of the many who are concerned about preserving and protecting Koke`e and Waimea Canyon State Parks. Although welcome to join us, leaseholders and others who have a financial or commercial interest in Koke`e or Waimea Canyon State Parks are not represented by our organization. Instead, we represent the broader community whose one unifying concern is to save our mountain sanctuary as the natural resource it was intended to remain for future generations.
We are committed to thoughtfully and responsibly addressing issues raised by the State of Hawai`i's proposed intensive redevelopment and new development plans for Koke`e as a "revenue generation center." We invite to the table those decision-makers we have entrusted with the future of our mountain to seek a master plan that has as its overriding and primary goal the preservation and protection of Koke`e and Waimea Canyon State Parks.Kaua`i Community - One Voice for Koke`e is dedicated to the preservation of Koke`e by:
- Creating greater public awareness of pending Koke`e redevelopment and new development plans as proposed by the State of Hawai`i (the most recent being the Environmental Impact Statement / Koke`e and Waimea Canyon State Parks Master Plan issued May 23, 2006) and further up-to-date communications from the Department of Land and Natural Resources, the Governor's Office, and other decision-makers;
- Separating truth from rumor and misinformation;
- Providing a forum on our website for the exchange of thoughtful communication about Koke`e;
- Suggesting positive action for those who want to help;
- Using our website to make public our dialogue with the Governor, the DLNR, and other decision-makers;
- Assisting the State and the DLNR to find alternative funding for the operation, repair and maintenance of Hawai`i's State Parks, including Koke`e and Waimea Canyon State Parks.
- Gathering together the community so we truly speak with One Voice for Koke`e!
